Crafting Spaces, Connecting Nature:

Inside Our Studio

Empowering Nature Through Design

At the heart of Villarroel’s ethos lies a profound respect for the environment, guiding our international architectural endeavors. With over 50 years of pioneering in architectural design, urban planning and landscape design, we strive to create spaces that blend sophistication with the simplicity of nature. Our mission extends beyond mere construction; it is to forge a harmonious balance between twenty-first-century architectural innovation and the timeless beauty of Mediterranean vernacular traditions.

We envision a world where every structure harmonizes with the human scale, local traditions, and, most importantly, sustainability, reflecting our deep commitment to integrating the natural environment with architectural excellence. Our commitment is to not only design buildings but to cultivate environments that thrive in synergy with their natural surroundings, ensuring a sustainable legacy for future generations.

A Tradition of Excellence Rooted in Sustainability

Founded by Melvin Villarroel, a visionary architect who championed the seamless integration of architecture with nature, our culture is deeply entrenched in the principles he established. Villarroel’s pioneering concept, “arquitectura del vacío” or “architecture of the void,” guides our approach, emphasizing open spaces that harmonize with their surroundings. This foundation of respect for nature, the human scale, and local traditions has garnered our firm international acclaim, especially in the resort and residential sectors.

Sustainability is the cornerstone of our practice, influencing every project from residential communities to luxury resorts worldwide. We are committed to using sustainable practices and materials that respect the environment, ensuring that our designs not only enhance the landscape but also contribute to a healthier planet.

Our team, inspired by Melvins’s legacy, continues to innovate, creating spaces that are a testament to sustainable architectural excellence and a reflection of our founder’s vision for a harmonious relationship between built environments and the natural world.
